Taking Back Summer, Millennial Style: Lost Planet Airmen release new single and video entitled “’93”

Dropping their skate-punk ode to all-day hang-fests and lazing through the dog days of summer, Lost Planet Airmen capture the sweat and grit of years gone past in their latest single entitled “‘93”. Released May 29 via High End Denim Records, “‘93” is a clear and deliberatly desperate call to return to the carefree feeling that came with summer and is a perfect addition to the windows-down days ahead.

Dropped as a stand alone track that may or may not be featured on a forthcoming LP, “‘93” arrived just in time to remind millennials to try and enjoy summer like they used to. Supported by a wayback playback music video made up of nostalgia-inducing scenes ranging from The Sandlot to early Gameboy commercials and news footage from Wacco, “‘93” is sonically optimistic, while being pragmatically realistic.

Opening with the line “I’m bleeding and screaming / for help but I am speechless / Can’t see straight / please fix me / Just take me back to ‘93” hits hard, especially for anyone old enough to  remember when Warped Tour was $50. But just because there might be some aches and pains doesn’t mean the fun of summer has to stop. Lost Planet Airmen are here to remind listeners that summer is the same as it ever was, and it is up to the individual to get out of it what they want.

Guitar/vocalist Taylor Stephenson had this to say about the new track:

“’93 is about wanting to go back to the carefree time of being a kid, especially a kid on Summer break. Your whole day is spent riding bikes and hanging out with your friends.”

“‘93” by Lost Planet Airmen is drenched in nostalgia and also carries a strong message driven by punk energy. The song doesn’t wax poetic about how perfect the past was, but instead shrugs and honestly states that it would be nice to return to a time without anxiety or knee pain. The Winnipeg outfit have delivered a sensible summer jam that is uplifting, reminiscent, and a much needed reminder to find time to party this summer.
