Wow! Promise Game is back with another banger! Are these guys from “Connecticut?” Because Connecticut is probably blushing.
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
Promise Game was something that Colin (vocalist) came up with when all the original members of the band were thinking of options that fit one main criteria: the name needed to be something unique, something that would stand out and be easily found across all channels online. We went through many different options, but at the end of the day we landed on Promise Game and we’ve never looked back!
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
We’ve all been playing music since we were teenagers basically, with everyone essentially having the ability to play multiple instruments. Many of us used to be in bands that played shows with each other throughout NH, dating back all the way to 2003. After collectively taking many years off from the music game, we decided to respark our passion and finally play in a band together. We’re sure glad we did.
How would you describe your sound?
This is a question that we always get, and most of the time have a tough time answering. Our sound honestly changes song to song, and we take pride in mixing many different styles of music into each track. If someone made us put in stone, we’d say Promise Game is an Emo Rock band.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
There are many artists that the five of us all pull inspiration from, it really is tough to narrow it down to a list. If we had to name a few, let’s go with New Found Glory, The Wonder Years, Motion City Soundtrack, Jimmy Eat World, and Death Cab for Cutie.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Just got done listening to Protect Your Heart’s new LP, last song in the shuffle was “Take Control”.
What’s your source for hearing new music?
I think we pretty much all use Spotify to listen to music, with maybe one or two of us as outliers who use YouTube.
Who is your dream producer?
It would be amazing to work with Alan Day on a record someday. We’ve had some friends work with him on recent releases, and know he would bring our sound to a whole new level. Plus, we all love Four Year Strong and have been long-time fans. Who wouldn’t want to work with someone from a band you all think that highly of?
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
There are simply way too many amazing artists across various genres that we’d all love to work with, so for this one we’re going to just say we’d love to collaborate with any artists that are as passionate about creating music as we are.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
Our friendship as a group, something formed well before PG was born, is the true reason why this band exists and why it will continue to thrive. We’re friends first, keeping that top of mind is an important factor in making sure we are achieving our goals while still having fun making music as buddies.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
We’re always available to connect with our audience, however it works best for them. We are very active on both Instagram and Facebook, which is where we generally find ourselves talking to listeners. We love connecting with people who enjoy our music, it’s pretty much the reason why we do this. Our main goal is to create stories for people to enjoy, and hopefully relate to.

What’s next for you?
With our new track “Connecticut” just being released, the focus right now is to continue creating new music that we plan to release in the coming year. We’re taking a quick break from playing shows while we focus on our songwriting, but all signs are pointing to another busy year for Promise Game in 2023.
Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
Definitely be sure to check out our new single “Connecticut” now available on all streaming platforms, and stay tuned for the official music video coming very soon. We appreciate everyone’s support the past couple years, as always thanks for listening!
Bio:
The best things in life occur unexpectedly. In early 2020, a group of friends decided to reclaim their love of music. In a typical New Hampshire basement, five musicians came together after taking a break from the music scene. What began as a weekly jam session of pop covers eventually turned into the lively pop/punk quintet known today as Promise Game. The band includes Colin VanDenBerge (vocals), Adam Elverson (guitar/vocals), Michael Cochran (Guitar), Matt Eisenstadter (bass) and Mark Elverson (drums). After feeling a spark of creativity, the group released their debut EP “It Won’t Be Long Now…” The cohesive collective of songs showcases the band’s large range of influences. From Say Anything to New Found Glory, each track offers a fresh new take on an emo sub-genre. Their cover of Sheryl Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy” stands out as well, providing fans with a look on how the band began.
In May 2022, Promise Game released their latest EP Horizon, giving listeners a strong and nostalgic sound reminiscent of the early-2000s. Combining the harmonies of The Rocket Summer with the bright melodies of Motion City Soundtrack, Promise Game finds its own unique sound in a post-Warped Tour world. Looking at the band’s success since their start, it sounds like fans and outlets agree. The band was named CTRL + Space.com’s “Band of the Year” in 2021, as well as selected to appear in Discovered Magazine’s “Undiscovered Class of 2022.” So, what’s next? Promise Game is taking life as it comes, because spontaneity is when the magic happens and everything puts itself into place.
