Linda Varg – “Music is something that lives in me always.” – Interview

Linda Varg took some time to answer our questions about her song writing process. Let’s see what she has to say!

First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?

My birth name is Linda Eriksson.
When I got married in 2010 I wanted to add the name Varg which means Wolf in Swedish. I found out that that’s a name that you just can’t change to without getting permission by everyone named Varg in Sweden. So instead of contacting everyone named Varg in Sweden I decided to add Varg as a middle name since that was ok😀
I thought Varg was a really great name and felt that it was a perfect name for me as an artist!

Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?

I started to sing when I was very young.
Sitting with my friend in her room listening to Michael Jackson and trying to imitate him😍
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember but it wasn’t until I did the confirmation in church that I understood that I had more than just an ordinary singing voice.
During the confirmation we did a musical and I had a small role as a teacher and got to sing a little bit.
I sang very well according to the man who was in charge of the musical and he invited me to start singing in his gospel choir. That’s when the real passion started. After that I started to take singing lessons and dance classes.
When I graduated, I moved to Gothenburg and started studying at the Ballet Academy as a musical artist.
It was a dream I had but it changed when I saw a talent show on TV called Popstars.
I told myself that if there was another round the following year, I would reply. I did and I won🔥
I have been in the music industry ever since.
I started writing my own songs in 2006.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound is singer/songwriter/pop.
I almost always write my songs with my acoustic guitar and then the production is added. Some songs have more of a pop production than others but you can always hear the melodic tones in the core of the songs.

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

In the very beginning I was very influenced by Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morissette and after that No Doubt. You can hear that if you listen to my song Russian Roulette for example.
But I haven’t had any influences during the writing or recording of the songs for my upcoming album. I have just been doing what I’ve heard in my head!

What’s the last song you listened to?

The last song I’ve listened to is the Swedish song “Dom andra” by the band Kent.
It’s an old song. The reason why I listened to that one is because I record videos of me singing covers acoustic and post on my social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
Even though I write and release my own music I still love to sing other artist songs as well😀

What’s your source for hearing new music?

I rarely listen to music. I don’t know why really! I prefer to write music and in between that I listen to lectures with inspiring people talking such as Michael Singer, Eckhart Tolle etc.
I don’t like too much noise in my head so I try to keep a silent mind as often as I can.

Who is your dream producer?

My dream producer must be Rick Rubin.
I love his way of producing music in an authentic way that suits the artist.
He also seems to have a good mind set which is very important according to me.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

My Idol is Pink.
It would be the coolest thing in the world to do a song with her and stand on stage with her!
I Love her voice and she is a badass performer.

What motivates you to keep making music?

Music is something that lives in me always.
As soon as I’ve finished writing a song, a new idea pops into my head
It’s just the way it is😀
But a few years ago I had something blocking my inspiration.
I was even afraid of picking up my guitar.
I guess I put too much pressure on myself.
But after a while I started to get it back!
I had to die to be reborn. Like the bird Phoenix.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

An idea can come from anything.
Could be something I go through in life or someone saying something or just a story I make up.
I have been writing music for a long time so I have many different songs with different content.
And sometimes an idea is a chorus. Other times from a few chords on my guitar.
But two songs on my upcoming album just popped up in my head while walking from my car to the grocery store and that is “All the way tonight” and “Deja Vu”.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?

I started posting more regularly on my social media platforms about six months ago. And I have more than double my followers on both Facebook and TikTok.
That’s where most of my fans are.
I have a wonderful connection with my fans there.
I think social platforms are a great tool for artists to reach their fans.
It’s a direct connection!

What’s next for you?

My debut album will be released at the end of April or the beginning of May.
I still haven’t named my album.
But it will come when the time is right.
I can’t force it.
I just started my Swedish tour and it will go on till the end of August.
I have some new fun stuff coming up in October but I can’t tell you about that yet😉
I will also keep posting on my social media as my journey goes on.

Thank you for doing this interview with me!
